Please share with us what made you aspire to enrol in this FlexiMasters?

NTU had an initiative for Class of 2020 graduates which allowed us to sign up for selected Graduate Certificate and FlexiMasters for free in 2020. Together with the additional S$1,600 in Bonus Alumni Course Credits, I took this opportunity to upskill myself by taking up Graduate Certificate in Power Engineering and continue my learning to complement the competencies acquired in my undergraduate years.

Which aspect of this FlexiMasters do you like the most?

The reason why I took Graduate Certificate in Power Engineering was because the courses were selected from FlexiMasters in Power Engineering offered in 2020, which means I can sign up for additional relevant courses to complete the certificate. Subsequently, if I decided to obtain an NTU Master's degree in the future, I can stack my earned credits from this FlexiMasters to NTU Master’s degree since the courses are credit-bearing. As a fresh graduate who has just started working full-time, having such a flexible learning path allows me to slowly adjust to the change.

What are the challenges you faced when trying to complete this FlexiMasters?

Time management is a struggle. As compared to being a full-time learner, it can be seen as an impossible idea to find a day or two just to study especially having a 9-5 job and also being a national athlete who requires to attend training sessions. However, it is only possible to plan a "fit all in" schedule when a company takes good care of the employee well-being with an understanding of sports association and most importantly, a flexible lecture system in school. With lectures being conducted both physically and online in real-time, these ease the trouble for me to rush down to attend lectures physically. Also, with the lecture being recorded, I can watch it whenever and wherever.

Describe the factors that led you to choose PaCE@NTU.

As an NTU Alumni, I am always fond of the EEE professors for being such a professional and approachable at the same time. They are always open to consultation with us despite their hectic schedule. They also organise trips for us to the course related industry workplace so that we can learn from the real-world experience on top of the textbooks. These are the reasons why I chose to further my studies in NTU.

Share with us a memorable experience you had during your time at NTU.

As a learner who attends online lectures most of the time due to the pandemic situation, I was afraid to do group assignments without knowing anyone. However, one of the professors understood our difficulties due to the limited interactions we had for online lectures. He solved these problems by optimising technologies such as creating the Excel online for everyone to input and work together.
