Introduction

Participants will recall the key concepts that determine effective learning through the use of technology tools. They will critically explore and examine the challenges and effectiveness in the various facilitation approaches to learning in the digital age. Participants will deepen their understanding of how and why learning needs to be differentiated and how this can be facilitated through technology tools. They will develop an understanding of how to utilise the visible thinking and information available through the students’ artefacts via the digital platforms to enhance their lesson design for their learners. They will deepen their understanding through exploration of affordances of suitable technology tools and pedagogies.

- FlexiMasters in Advanced Pedagogical ​Practices

Learners must complete the following courses to attain the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Pedagogical ​Practices (12 AU):

  • MTC902 Designing Curriculum: Theory and Practice (or MTC902A-C)
  • MTC903 Assessment for Learning: Theory and Practice (or MTC903A-C)
  • MTC904 Facilitating Learning in the Digital Age (or MTC904A-C)

Upon completion of the fourth course, MTC901 Nurturing Learners and Learning (or MTC901A-C), learners will fulfil the AU requirements to attain the FlexiMasters in Advanced Pedagogical ​Practices (16 AU).

Through this course participants will:

1. Synthesise the various key concepts that determine the effectiveness of learning in the digital age.

2. Critically review relevant theoretical approaches to deepen their understanding of designing and facilitating learning in the digital age.

3. Examine why and how learning needs to be differentiated and how it can be facilitated through technology-mediated learning.

4. Comprehend how the information available through the technology platform about their students’ learning informs the next learning design.

5. Apply the key concepts and ideas to a given learning problem to synthesise and personalise their learning.

The following topics will be explored:

  1. Introduction to differentiation through digital learning and recall of key concepts.
  2. Recap and deeper exploration of facilitating learning through the various digital platforms: • Various approaches and their affordances • Various facilitation strategies
  3. Exploration and evaluation of the affordances of suitable technology tools and the associated pedagogies.
  4. Use of technology tools to facilitate ‘assessment of learning’ and assessment for learning’ • Understanding the 'what’ • Determining the ‘why’ • Designing to address the ‘how’
  • Proficiency in English
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in an institute of education
