Outbound Exchange to PKU and companies in Beijing 

1. Research Exchange Programme (Faculty, Research and Post Graduates)

1.1 NTU Faculty and Research Staff
Faculty and Research Staff member can apply for approval for oversea to participate in research collaboration and research-related visits using the online Business Travel Application system (BTS).
Please refer to the handbook under business travel for the information.

1.2 Postgraduate Students
Post grad students to apply to the Director of NTU-PKU-JRI

2. Research & Academic Exchange Programme (Under-Graduates)

The motivation behind this scholarship is to strengthen the ties between Singapore and China in general, and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Peking University (PKU) in particular.

This programme offers various attachments (ranging from 10 weeks to 12 months) that place students overseas for work and/or study. During these stints, students earn academic units that count towards their NTU degree. It also allows students to take courses or do research in an overseas university for one full semester or more while exploring a new country and culture.

NTU-PKU Joint Research Institute Scholarship
(Supported by the NTU-PKU Joint Research Institute which is funded by a donation from Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation)

Candidates must complete the Study portion at PKU.

  • Candidates may get a chance to work in companies like Alibaba, Baidu, Microsoft Research Asia, NVDIA, Tencent and PKU. The work components fulfills the Professional Internship (PI) requirements.
  • Candidates are expected to be ambassadors of NTU/Singapore during their 24 weeks exchange at PKU/China.

Location : Beijing, China

Entry requirement and eligibility :

  • Open to all students in NTU
  • Applicants should have good academic track records
  • Have strong leadership qualities and potential
  • Present good co-curricular activities records
  • Applicants should be able to communicate in Mandarin (at least an O level Chinese or equivalent)
  • Applicants would be selected through evaluation by OGEM, NTU-PKU JRI and interviews by the companies
  • Priority will be given to Singapore and Singapore Permanent Residents

 

Financial Aid :

  • Course fee subsidy of 85% will apply to Singaporean and SPR students only.
  • NTU-PKU Joint Research Institute Scholarship valued at SGD$10,000 for up to 15 successful candidates.

Study in PKU (3 weeks)

  • Medium of instruction : Chinese
  • Credit-bearing Programme : 6 AUs
  • Details to be confirmed with OGEM

Work* in Beijing (21 weeks)

  • Must be able to converse in Chinese
  • Credit-bearing Programme : 8 AUs

* All positions are subjected to successful interviews by the companies

Deliverables and Completion of Exchange
Scholarship receipients are required to submit a report to the NTU-PKU Joint Research Institute through OGEM which confirms the successful completion of the project. The report can be in the form of blog, photo montage, video, journal, ppt slides or any suitable medium. The report is required to be filed with OGEM within four (4) weeks upon returning back to NTU/Singapore.
