Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State for Defence and Manpower,

NTU Board of Trustees Chair Ms Goh Swee Chen,

Distinguished guests,

Alumni,

Fellow colleagues,

Students,

Ladies and Gentlemen.

Good morning, and a very warm welcome to NTU’s first Giving Day.

This is the first time that we have ever tried to bring all of the OneNTU family together to share in the spirit of giving and to ask for support towards critical causes at the University.

This event also marks the culmination of NTU’s three-part We Belong campaign that is part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, and which began with NTU Service Week in January, and was followed by the Best Foot Forward fundraising run in February.

It is an auspicious day. 69 years ago, on 23 March 1953, the Hokkien Huay Kuan donated this land to build a university that we now know as NTU. Giving Day is therefore a day for gratitude to our forebearers – to all the past generations for the gifts they made – as well as a day for us to make our own history, and to provide support that will help future generations.

What we raise during this 12-hour fundraising event will be used to benefit needy students, for sustainability initiatives, to support digital inclusion and advance cutting-edge research in our Colleges and Schools.

I hope you enjoy taking part in the programme ahead. It includes talent showcases by alumni, faculty, staff and students, and a panel discussion with bursary recipients titled ‘Impactful Giving: Your Gift in Action’, amongst other activities.

On behalf of the OneNTU community, I extend my appreciation and gratitude for your support. Together, let’s build on our momentum and shape an even better future for NTU.

Thank you.
