Topological Photonics

The webinar was jointly organised by IAS and the Graduate Students' Clubs of SPMS and EEE. Assoc Prof Chong Yidong discussed the scientific history of topological photonics, including his involvement in the first design and experimental demonstration of a photonic device hosting a topological edge state (2009). He also surveyed the major research directions currently being explored within the field. His talk helped connect us with the history of topological photonics as well as to better understand the band structures and the Bloch theorem describing them.
