Chinese | Uganda Kwan receives Hong Kong Biennial Award for her 2017 book, Interpreters as Scholars

Associate Professor Uganda Kwan (Chinese) has been awarded a Book Prize in the 15th Hong Kong Biennial Awards conferred by Hong Kong SAR Government for her 2017 publication Interpreters as Scholars 《譯者與學者》.

This book examines the rise of Sinology in 19th century Britain, focusing in particular on the geopolitical role of Hong Kong. Based on deep archival research, the book reveals the hitherto unappreciated roles and functions of translation and interpretive praxis in the disciplinary formation of "Chinese Studies" in England.
