In 2011, the Lee Foundation made a landmark S$150 million gift to NTU to support its new medical school. In honour of the donation, the school was named Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, in memory of Dr Lee’s late father, the renowned business leader, pioneer and philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian who established the Lee Foundation in 1952. To date, the University has received close to S$178 million from the Lee Foundation in support of medical education, scholarships, bursaries, programmes and student activities.

In 2018, NTU conferred Dr Lee with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters, in recognition of his staunch support and philanthropic contributions to education.

Dr Lee left his mark on the world through Lee Foundation’s various philanthropic endeavours around the world, including contributing generously to other universities worldwide and serving in many cultural institutions.
