MAE Robotics Club: Team MECATRON - SAUVC (Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge)

An Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is an exciting challenge in the engineering field. The competition serves as a learning ground for participants to experience the challenges of AUV system engineering and develop skills in the related fields of mechanical, electrical and software engineering.

The SAUVC competition challenges participant teams to build an AUV requires the ability to perform the given tasks to simulate an actual operational AUVs. The competition was held in a swimming pool at the Singapore Polytechnic. The AUV from each team was required to perform 4 tasks, where speed and accuracy were the main factors for the winner of the competition.

Team MECATron had implemented an AI program by training the AI through machine learning using pattern recognition to achieve automated navigation and obstacle avoidance.

Team MECATron was placed in the top 32 teams globally in SAUVC 2019.
