CRADLE Connects workshop on Employment/Lifelong learning Mindsets & challenges of School-to-Work transition (STWT) amidst Singapore’s transformation of Education

CRADLE Connects workshop on Employment/Lifelong learning Mindsets & challenges of School-to-Work transition (STWT) amidst Singapore’s transformation of Education was held on 25th July 2023. Practitioners from NTU Career & Attachment Office, Singapore University of Social Sciences, Temasek Polytechnic’s Centre for Life Skills, Student Support & Career Services Department, and Strategic & Quality Development Department were invited over tea to discuss the future of graduates’ employability in the 21st century. The workshop commenced with an address from Assoc Prof Trevor Yu, Co-Director of CRADLE about the centre’s role.

Assoc Prof Chan Kim Yin (NBS) highlighted research findings from 3-year longitudinal WDARF funded project led by  Assoc Prof Ringo Ho (Research Director, Humanities, Social Sciences & Research Communication) and himself, elucidating a distinction between 21st century employability mindsets with those mindsets of the 20th century. Guest speakers Mr Chua Ping Tzeun (Deputy Director, Strategic & Quality Development) and Dr Tan Wah Pheow (Head, Centre for Applied Behavioural Sciences) from Temasek Polytechnic shared their experiences in supporting students’ STWT and applying behavioural nudging to encourage students’ engagement with ECG resources. Participants discussed the provision of ECG services and engagement in their institution, students’ mindsets about learning and employability, and their respective approaches to developing learners. It was an eventful afternoon where participants gained new ideas about leveraging on the research done and pondered potential collaborations with CRADLE towards transforming our institutions’ role in supporting STWT more systemically and holistically.
