NTU - Canaan Joint Research Collaboration on Green Intelligent Computing

On 7 May 2026, Nanyang Technological University and Canaan Inc. officially signed a Joint Research Collaboration Agreement to launch the project: “Towards Green Intelligent Compute for Advanced Systems and Applications.”
At the signing ceremony, Prof. Lam Khin Yong, Vice President (Industry) of NTU, and Mr. Nangeng Zhang, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canaan, delivered remarks on the collaboration. Both highlighted that the partnership combines Canaan’s expertise in high-performance computing and industrial innovation with NTU’s strong research capabilities in AI, blockchain, and advanced computing systems, to explore the next generation of sustainable and energy-efficient intelligent computing technologies.
The joint research will be supported by the Centre in Computational Technologies for Finance (NTU-CCTF) as the core research platform, with the research team led by Prof. Tianwei Zhang, Associate Director of NTU-CCTF, Associate professor and Provost's chair in computing at College of Computing and Data Science, Nanyang Technological University.
The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including:
• Energy-efficient computing systems and optimized architectures
• Privacy-preserving edge AI applications for smart retail
• Collaborative cloud-edge-endpoint computing systems
• International platforms for engineering and innovation talent development
The research outcomes are expected to contribute to future applications in green data centres, smart retail, and intelligent infrastructure, further advancing sustainable digital technologies.
