Launching the NBS Alumni Youth Wing

A New Chapter for the NBS Community

NTU Nanyang Business School (NBS) Alumni Association officially launched the NBS Alumni Youth Wing, a new initiative dedicated to nurturing a dynamic community of young alumni committed to innovation, leadership, and social impact. The launch on 24 October, held in conjunction with the Welcome Undergraduate Class of 2025 party, brought together alumni, faculty and staff in celebration of shared purpose and connection.

The NBS Alumni Youth Wing is a platform that connects young alumni aged 35 and below,  fostering continuous engagement, professional growth, and a strong sense of belonging within the NBS community. It creates opportunities for networking, mentorship, and collaboration, while empowering members to make positive contributions to society.

Honouring 30 Years of Growth and Looking Ahead

Associate Professor Chung Lai Hong, Assistant Dean (Alumni Relations), reflected on the school’s journey. “NBS’s 30th anniversary is a very significant milestone because I’ve had the privilege and the joy of being part of this journey, watching how the school has progressed and made so many developments and impacts over the last 30 years,” she said. She added that the NBS Alumni Youth Wing represents a natural progression in NBS’s alumni community, ensuring that young graduates have a platform to shape its future while maintaining the continuity and spirit that have defined NBS for three decades.

Associate Professor Angie Low, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education), shared that the people behind NBS remain its greatest strength. She believes the NBS Alumni Youth Wing will play a vital role in developing the next generation of alumni leaders, with young graduates bringing fresh insights and industry experience that can guide and inspire current students.

Building a Culture of Connection and Mentorship

Leading the initiative are Undergraduate Lead Melvin Nee (B.ACC & B.BUS) and Postgraduate Lead Terrence Fou (Nanyang MBA), both recent graduates who recognise the importance of community in personal and professional growth.

Melvin shared that his decision to take up the leadership role stemmed from a desire to give back. “What inspired me to pick up the role was the guidance that I received when I was an undergraduate. I received a lot of advice from my seniors, and I always thought that once I graduated, I wanted to give back,” he said.

He believes that networking will be a key pillar for the NBS Alumni Youth Wing. “I always believe in the power of networking, especially in this age of AI where it’s growing so exponentially. We can’t lose that human touch,” he added. He hopes the NBS Alumni Youth Wing will encourage alumni to form genuine connections and support one another as they progress through different stages of their careers.

Terrence shares a similar commitment to building a supportive and engaged alumni community. Together with his team, he plans to focus on three key areas: mentorship, social impact, and professional dialogue. Through initiatives that connect alumni with students, community service projects, and sessions with industry speakers, the NBS Alumni Youth Wing aims to create opportunities for learning, collaboration, and contribution.

A Network that Grows Together

For many young graduates, the launch of the NBS Alumni Youth Wing represents an opportunity to stay connected and navigate future challenges together.

Joanne Koh (B.BUS)  shared, “One of the biggest challenges I faced as a fresh grad was navigating the transition from school to the working world. I hope the NBS Alumni Youth Wing will host more events to help alumni reconnect and build a strong support network, while also providing mentorship and career guidance.”

Pierre Low (B.BUS) expressed similar optimism, adding that the NBS Alumni Youth Wing can be a valuable space for alumni to exchange experiences and insights. He hopes it will grow into a vibrant network where alumni from different cohorts can connect meaningfully and learn from one another’s journeys.

For fellow graduate Trinetra (B.BUS) , staying connected to the alumni community is about tapping into a shared legacy of experience. “I think it’s really important for young alumni like myself to stay connected with alumni who have been around for decades because of their wealth of experiences and their connections within the network that we don’t yet have. It’s important for us to get inspired by them, to learn from their journeys, and to grow in our own fields through those interactions,” she reflected.

Continuing the NBS Legacy

As we celebrate 30 years as Nanyang Business School this year, the launch of the NBS Alumni Youth Wing embodies the school’s enduring spirit of collaboration and growth. It is a commitment to nurturing future leaders and strengthening the bonds that connect NBS alumni, ensuring that the community continues to thrive for years to come.
