Join us at our inaugural NBS Research Day on 22 September 2023 at the Gaia Auditorium. Focusing on sustainability and emerging technologies, our event will bring faculty, students, and guests together to share scholarly work through research posters and presentations. With a series of themed sessions, we will spotlight the school’s insightful thought leadership and various research centres.  

We are pleased to have Dr. Ofir Turel from the University of Melbourne and Dr. Kai Li from The University of Columbia as our keynote speakers for the event. In line with the theme, they will share their thoughts and knowledge on stewarding sustainability transformations and the business implications of emerging technologies.

About Keynote Speakers

Dr Ofir TurelDr. Ofir Turel is a professor of Information Systems Management at the University of Melbourne and a Scholar in Residence at the Department of Psychology at the University of Southern California. His research interests include a broad range of behavioural, biophysiological, and managerial issues in various information systems contexts. He has published more than 190 papers in journals such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, MIT Sloan Management Review, Journal of AIS, European Journal of Information Systems, and others. He has been recognised in the top 2% of researchers worldwide in a study conducted by Stanford University. His research has also been featured in numerous media outlets, including for example, the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Daily Mail, CBC, Times Higher Education, The Rolling Stone, PBS, radio and TV stations in Japan, South Korea, and Canada, documentaries in Germany and France, and many podcasts.
Dr Kai LiDr. Kai Li holds the Canada Research Chair in Corporate Governance and W. Maurice Young Endowed Chair in Finance at the UBC Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a Managing Editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. Dr. Li’s research focuses on the economic consequences of corporate governance mechanisms. Her current research projects explore: (1) gender and finance, (2) machine learning in finance, and (3) bond ownership and creditor governance.
