In a commentary, reporter Lin Xin Hui cited that Teo You Yenn, an associate professor from NTU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, had opined in an article on Channel NewsAsia’s website that providing more resources to the preschool sector ought not to be the key means of tackling social inequality. Teo, who is also the author of the book This is what inequality looks like, pointed out that the intention to even out students’ differences from preschool might backfire by creating an even more competitive environment. Teo said if the government emphasised the equality in preschool education but lacked the will to review the education system, it would be inevitable that social inequality would persist.​
