A hot debate arose recently on whether China should impose taxes on empty houses. Prof Ng Yew Kwang from NTU Singapore said empty homes aren’t a serious problem and property prices generally haven’t become housing bubbles. If taxes are imposed on empty houses, it may reduce the long-term supply of houses, and also cause property prices to increase in the long run.
