PM Lee said that a general election next year is always possible at the welcome dinner of Bloomberg New Economy Forum last night, in reply to Bloomberg News editor-in-chief John Micklethwait’s question. Asst Prof Woo Jun Jie from NTU School of Social Sciences said, next year will be an ‘ideal window’ for PAP. Woo said that people will look at the past achievements and look to the future as they celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of modern Singapore. So PAP may take the opportunity to let people think about who has been leading Singapore for the past 50 years and who they should vote for. On PM Lee’s reiteration that none of his children wants to be involved in politics, Woo thinks that by saying so, PM Lee is pacifying the people, as currently it may be “difficult to accept” having one more Lee family member participating in the general elections.
