Acquiring Internet of Things (IoT) capability will provide Rolls-Royce with a low cost way to seek advantages, maintain our competitive position and avoid disruption. Many industries, including automotive, are currently benefiting from more intense application of sensors and greater levels of connectivity. Our competitors are also investing in IoT and it is critical that we overcome the traditional barriers associated with the long life cycles of our safety critical products.

The IoT IRP will focus on the opportunities and challenges created by true integration of systems down to the component level to the internet. Great opportunities from information gathering exist but equally great challenges are created for data and system security.
