Primary Care Multimorbidity Series

13 July: The first of four primary care multimorbidity seminars was successfully conducted on 13 July 2024, from 2 pm to 5 pm, hosted by A/Prof Jo-Anne Manski-Nankervis. Adj A/Prof Victor Loh from the Department of Family Medicine, National University Health System, spoke on the ‘Year of Care Programme approach to Personalised Care and Support Planning' at National University Polyclinics, followed by Prof Jose Valderas, who shared on the ‘Applicability of Patient Reported Experience and Outcome Measures (PREMS and PROMS) to patients with Multimorbidity.’

After the tea break, Asst/Prof Lee Eng Sing elaborated on the conceptual framework for Multimorbidity described in the Healthier SG Multimorbidity Care Protocol. Next, a presentation of the draft Healthier SG care protocol for Stroke was made, followed by a ‘Question and Answer’ session facilitated by Dr Wong Tien Hua (President of the College of Family Physicians, Singapore) with A/Prof Deidre Anne De Silva (National Neuroscience Institute) and Asst/Prof Lee Eng Sing as panelists.

Primary Care Multimorbidity Seminar Tackles Chronic Disease through Lifestyle Medicine

Led by Assistant Professor Lee Eng Sing, the seminar was hosted by our Primary Care and Family Medicine team, highlighting the rising burden of chronic disease in Singapore's aging population. Associate Professor Jo-Anne Manski-Nankervis chaired a panel with GP speakers, Assistant Professor Lee Eng Sing, Dr Ng Lee Beng, Dr Shariffa Syahidah Chisty, Dr Leonard Leng, Ms Marine Chioh, Assistant Director of Primary and Community Care Development Division (Agency for Integrated Care) and Dr Suraj Kumar, Vice President from The College of Family Physicians on integrating lifestyle medicine into primary care. We would like to extend our appreciation to the speakers and panellists for their valuable contributions.

The 4th NHGP-LKC Research Forum was successfully concluded on 24 Feb. This hybrid event brought together medical students and colleagues from LKCMedicine and NHGP. We would like to extend our appreciation to the speakers for their valuable contributions.

RAISE Primary Care Research Seminar Series

16 July – Primary Care Research Alliance In Singapore (RAISE) is a collaboration between Family Medicine Departments across polyclinic partners and three local universities. The first RAISE seminar was hosted virtually by LKCMedicine, focussing on practice-based research networks. The speakers were University of Melbourne’s Professor Jon Emery, LKCMedicine’s Research Fellow Sam Xin Hui and Assistant Professor Lee Eng Sing.

17 September – Co-organised by LKCMedicine and hosted by SingHealth Duke-NUS Family Medicine Academic Clinical Programme, the second seminar was attended by 43 clinicians and academics from Singapore’s three medical schools, its three polyclinic clusters and the SPARK Network. Moderated by SingHealth Polyclinics Deputy Director (Research) Professor Ng Chirk Jenn, the seminar focused on diverse topics of palliative care and multidisciplinary weight management.

The third RAISE Primary Care Seminar featured National University Polyclinic’s Dr Desmond Ong’s presentation on his PhD thesis, which explores multimorbidity and minimally disruptive care in primary care. He is co-supervised by LKCMedicine Assistant Professor Lee Eng Sing. RAISE is the Primary Care Research Alliance in Singapore, with monthly seminar series coordinated by Primary Care and Family Medicine at LKCMedicine.

Developing a Value-Driven Approach for the Management of Multimorbidity in Primary Care by Dr Desmond Ong

19 Nov: The 4th RAISE seminar was hosted by PCFM, LKCMedicine on 19 Nov with 25 attendees in Zoom. Dr Tim Hart, formerly a Research Fellow with Primary Care and Family Medicine at LKCMedicine and an ongoing collaborator, presented his research exploring Urinary Tract Infection and Management in private general practice setting in Singapore. Dr Ng Xin Rong, a family physician and Associate Consultant from NHGP-Toa Payoh shared his research protocol for A Randomised Controlled Study on the Impact of Self-Sampling HPV DNA test for Cervical Cancer Screening. RAISE (Primary Care Research Alliance in Singapore) is a collaboration between all three Singapore University family medicine departments, healthcare clusters and SPARK. We look forward to sharing more primary care research in 2025!

The 6th RAISE seminar was hosted by Department of Family Medicine, National University Health System with presentation from Associate Professor Josefien van Olmen from University of Antwerp on "Implementation Research in Support of Primary Care Strengthening in Asian Health Systems". RAISE is excited to continue working with our partners, researchers and stakeholders to enhance research opportunities and drive positive change. This reaffirmed our commitment to continue our collaboration across institutions, organising forums to build a thriving research community.

The 7th RAISE seminar was hosted by Department of Family Medicine, National University Health System with Dr Yaiza del Pozo Martin, Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet Primary Care  introducing the new journal. Dr Yaiza shared the history of the journal, why publish with Lancet, their publication scope, editorial and submission processes. It was a great exchange with participants highlighting some of the challenges associated with publishing and some helpful feedback to increase the chances of successful submission
