Gift of education from author You Jin
Accomplished author and alumna Madam Tham Yew Chin – better known by her pen name You Jin – and her husband make a gift to nurture future generations of NTU humanities students.
Accomplished author and NTU Singapore alumna Madam Tham Yew Chin – better known by her pen name You Jin – and her husband have made a gift to nurture future generations of NTU humanities students.
Her husband, Mr James Lim, will donate S$500,000 to start the You Jin Education Endowment Fund. With government matching, the total amount raised is S$1.25 million.
The endowment fund will go towards the establishment of merit awards, a scholarship, and a bursary for NTU humanities students.
Madam Tham, who won the Cultural Medallion for Literature in 2009, will also donate her full collection of 206 books – including novels, travelogues, essays, and biographies published in Singapore and China – to the NTU Chinese Library.
The gift signing and book donation ceremony was witnessed today by Ms Low Yen Ling, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Trade and Industry.
