Faculty members and students from NTU’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) visited the J113/J115A MRT Project on 17 August 2026. Hosted by Hwa Seng Builder (HSB) Pte Ltd, the visit provided participants with valuable insights into the engineering planning, construction challenges, and site coordination required to deliver a major rail infrastructure within and around the NTU campus.
The programme began with a project briefing at the HSB site office, where Mr Bryan Bu introduced an overview of the J113/J115A MRT Project and shared key challenges encountered during construction. These included constrained work and assembly spaces, the need for off-site prefabrication, transportation of components during off-peak hours, and the complex traffic and site coordination requirements. Participants also learned about the viaduct assembly methods adopted for the project on the NTU campus.
The group then proceeded to the J113 site located between the NTU and NIE campuses, where Mr Syed Munoff and the project team introduced key features of the site, including the rail track, platform, and bridge connection to the NTU North Spine area. The visit offered participants a first-hand look at how the future MRT infrastructure is expected to improve connectivity and ease traffic within the campus.
