​Prof Benjamin Horton in the Straits Times: Climate X-factor

Extreme weather has become that unpredictable phenomena, or X-factor, increasingly causing instability and disaster in various corners of the world, with impact on public safety, transport, energy and health. Not even two and a half months into 2019 we have seen extreme heat and catastrophic rainfall in Australia, and extreme cold spells in the US. Though we cannot control these unpredictable weather phenomena while they are happening, we can still prevent this X-factor from escalating further, and stop extreme climate from becoming the new norm.
