​Hot future careers in environmental science according to NTU Magazine Hey!

Good news for our students: the future holds hot career opportunities for environmental scientists. When NTU Magazine Hey! lists 15 hot jobs of the future, two are in environmental science: 'Coastal City Defence'  and 'Environmental and Natural Resources Protection'. As sea levels continue to rise due to global warming, billions of people living near the coastline will be affected. Storm surges and flooding are some of the threats that coastal defenders will need to help coastal communities to mitigate and manage. Environmental and Natural Resource Protection involves finding ways to relieve pressure on natural resources and promote sustainable management of e.g. fresh water and soil resources.

Dr Natasha Bhatia, lecturer and Assistant Chair for Undergraduate Studies, has provided the information to Hey!; she points out the importance of combining scientific knowledge with soft skills for finding lasting solutions than can be successfully implemented in the real world. This is why the programs offered at ASE offers a solid base in science and quantitative skills combined with soft skills such as leadership, communication, group work and innovative problem-solving, as well as interdisciplinary elements including risk management, urban planning, public affairs, and international relations. Other future careers listed by HEY! include: cyber security, data recycling and personal drone transport.
