Node 3: Toxic Industrial Waste (TIW) Solutions

Neutralising Hazards through Innovation

Singapore's robust industrial sector generates complex by-products that require highly specialised handling. Node 3 is dedicated to addressing the unique challenges posed by Toxic Industrial Waste (TIW). Researchers focus on developing advanced chemical, thermal and biological treatment processes that go beyond conventional incineration or neutralisation. The goal is to design highly efficient, low-energy methods to detoxify hazardous streams, safeguarding environmental safety or public health while supporting sustainable industrial growth.

Pioneering Resource Efficiency in Heavy Industry

Treatment is only half the equation; true sustainability requires recovery. Node 3 explores innovative pathways to extract valuable baseline chemicals, metals and minerals from toxic industrial sludge and effluents. By partnering closely with industry stakeholders, novel recovery technologies are integrated directly into existing industrial supply chains. This "closed-loop" approach minimises the volume of hazardous waste requiring permanent disposal while creating new economic value from previously discarded materials.
