FAQs
1. Can shortlisted teams from overseas pitch virtually at the Grand Finale?
Yes, shortlisted overseas teams have two options:
a. They can choose to travel to Singapore to present in person [refer to question 2] or
b. Present virtually with their team members
While we encourage teams to come down and experience the full event, we understand that virtual participation may be more feasible for some. Please note that this option is not available to local teams in Singapore, who must attend in person.
2. Will travel expenses be covered for overseas teams if they are shortlisted?
We will sponsor round-trip flights for two members of selected shortlisted overseas teams. All other travel, accommodation, and related expenses will need to be covered by the participants themselves. Additional details will be provided to the shortlisted teams.
3. Is there a deadline for confirming participation for shortlisted overseas teams?
Yes, shortlisted teams must confirm their participation, whether attending in person or virtually, by January 2025.
4. Can team members join from different locations, or must the team be in one place for the pitch?
For overseas teams, virtual participation is allowed, and we recommend team members be in the same location for better coordination.
Regardless of location, overseas teams should ensure they have a quiet environment, stable internet connection, and clear audio to facilitate a smooth presentation.
If you are one of the selected, sponsored team members travelling to Singapore, you will be expected to attend the event in person.
5. Will overseas teams have access to mentoring and preparation sessions virtually before the Grand Finale?
Yes, virtual mentoring and preparation sessions will be made available to all shortlisted teams. Sessions will operate in Singapore time (GMT+8).
6. Are there any special requirements or expectations for overseas teams in terms of presentation format, language, or time zones?
All presentations, submissions and communications must be in:
- English only. This is applicable to all written or video submissions.
- Master classes and activities related to the 3rd Kumar Sustainability & Innovation Prize (KSIP) will operate in the Singapore time zone (SGT) and in English only.
7. What happens if an overseas team cannot attend in person due to unforeseen circumstances for the Grand Finale (e.g., travel restrictions)?
We will handle such cases on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to the organising team at [email protected] if any unforeseen circumstances arise.
8. Can a student participate in more than one group for the competition, each with a different project, for example, by representing two different teams?
No, a student cannot join more than one group in the competition. Given the commitment required for the Kumar Sustainability & Innovation Prize (KSIP), participants are expected to focus their efforts on a single project to ensure the quality and impact of their contributions towards sustainability innovation.
9. Will there be opportunities for overseas teams to network with industry experts and other participants?
Yes, both in-person and virtual participants will have opportunities to engage with industry experts, mentors, and fellow participants. For virtual participants, we will organize events such as Fireside Chats to ensure you can connect meaningfully with key stakeholders throughout the program. Where possible, these sessions will be recorded.
10. Can a local university student team up with an overseas student(s) for the 3rd Kumar Sustainability & Innovation Prize (KSIP)?
Cross border collaborations are not recommended, as they may present challenges in aligning schedules and ensuring consistent progress. To work smoothly and stay fully committed to the project, it’s important to avoid the difficulties of coordinating across different time zones and academic calendars.
Therefore, teams should consist of students from the same institution to ensure better alignment and project execution.
11. What are the presentation requirements for local and international teams at the 3rd KSIP Grand Finale?
At least 50% of your team must present during the shortlisted teams showcase. For example, in a team of three, at least two members must pitch. Failure to meet this may result in disqualification.
- Local Teams: Must present in person at NTU, AIA Canopy, North Spine.
- International Teams: May present online via Zoom. If some team members are attending in person while others join online, the 50% presentation rule still applies.
For International teams not based in Singapore:
1. What is the travel reimbursement policy for international teams?

2. What type of airfare is covered under the travel reimbursement?
