It is well known that assumptions in classical beam, plate and shell theories can lead to solutions that deviate significantly from exact ones. The Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF) provides a hierarchical framework for developing structural theories for beams, plates and shells, including laminated structures and multifield loadings. Its Equivalent Single Layer, Layer-Wise, Component-Wise and Node Dependent Kinematics approaches have been successfully applied to composite structures and to mechanical, thermal, electromechanical, linear and nonlinear problems. The lecture introduces the X-DOF method, which enables arbitrary assumptions for each displacement component (Degree of Freedom, DOF), with applications to metallic and laminated composite beams, plates and shells. The combination of X-DOF and Node-Dependent Kinematics (NDK) leads to FEM 2.0, the next generation of the Finite Element Method, providing appropriate structural models at each point and direction for effective computational modelling and structural analysis. | ||
