Nanyang Business School Achieves SOA University-Earned Credit Recognition
First posted on NBS

Nanyang Business School (NBS) has been awarded University-Earned
Credit (UEC) recognition by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), United
States, marking an important milestone for actuarial education in
Singapore. With this recognition, NTU becomes the first university in
Singapore to receive SOA’s UEC accreditation, further strengthening
NBS’s position as a leading centre for actuarial science and risk
analytics education in the region.
The SOA’s highly selective
UEC program enables students at approved universities to earn credit
toward specific professional actuarial exams through exceptional
academic performance in accredited courses. This recognition is
particularly impactful for students enrolled in NBS’s MSc in Actuarial
and Risk Analytics (MARA) programme. Under this framework, eligible MARA
students can bypass selected SOA examinations by excelling in
designated NBS courses, empowering them to fast-track their professional
credentials concurrently with their master’s degree.
With
this latest achievement, the actuarial programme at NBS now holds the
highly sought-after dual accreditation from the world’s leading
actuarial bodies: the Society of Actuaries (SOA, US) and the Institute
and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA, UK). This dual recognition uniquely
positions the programme in Singapore and the broader region, offering a
globally recognised professional pathway that appeals to top-tier talent
worldwide.
The UEC accreditation also reflects the strong academic foundation and professional relevance of NBS’s actuarial programmes, which combine rigorous quantitative training with applications in insurance, finance, and risk analytics. NBS faculty are actively engaged in research on emerging risks, including longevity risk, climate risk, and financial resilience, helping to prepare graduates to contribute to the evolving needs of the insurance and financial services industries.
