2018 Joint Conference

Singapore, 29 July - 1 August 2018

The Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA) and Nanyang Technological University’s Insurance Risk and Finance Research Centre (IRFRC) invite you to submit a paper for presentation at our joint conference in Singapore from July 29 to August 1, 2018.

Both APRIA and the IRFRC have long established annual conferences. The Annual IRFRC Conferences since 2011 have been in partnership with the leading global reinsurer SCOR. The 2018 Joint Conference combines two prominent annual conferences into one joint event to maximize the participation by academics and professionals from the region and globally. The 2018 Joint Conference welcomes theoretical or applied research papers on risk-related and insurance-related topics. Specific subject areas include, but are not limited to, catastrophic risks, cyber risk, mortality risk, longevity risk, insurance economics, insurance law & regulation, insurance investment, corporate governance, public policy, health care, social insurance, and insurance education/pedagogical issues.

Submission Guidelines

The paper/proposal must be in English and should contain two separate files:
One file containing the author(s) and full contact information, plus paper title and abstract only;
One file containing no author information but with the full paper or detailed proposal (i.e., the purpose and importance of the research, methodology and data, expected results, and references).

Authors will be notified of status of acceptance of paper/proposal by March 31, 2018.

Full Paper Deadline
Authors of accepted papers are required to present their paper at the conference. They must submit the full paper in MS Word or PDF format by June 1, 2018 using the above link. Only full papers submitted by the deadline will be included in the Conference Program.

Publishing Opportunity: The Asia-Pacific Journal of Risk and Insurance (APJRI)
The Guest Editors will select from the Conference programme a number of papers that will go through an ad hoc review process for publication in a special issue of the APJRI – “Emerging Risks and New Solutions in Risk Management.” This special journal issue has Profs. Shinichi Kamiya and Atsuyuki Kogure as guest editors and reviewers.

Kyobo Life Travel Scholarship offers up to 10 travel scholarships to junior professors with less 3 years of academic experience or a doctoral candidate who will present a paper at the conference. The scholarship covers Registration Fee plus US$500. The applicant must apply for the scholarship by the proposal submission deadline, also with a resume.

Yu Ziyou Memorial Scholarship offer additional US$500 as secondary to Kyobo Life Travel Scholarship for up to 5 applicants.

Harold D. Skipper Award for the Best Paper
Applicants must submit completed papers by June 1 to be considered for this award. Award winner(s) will be announced at the conference.

SCOR Actuarial Prize
“SCOR Actuarial Prize” will be awarded to the best actuarial paper submitted to the joint conference. Applicants must submit completed papers by June 1 to be considered for this award. An independent IRFRC Scientific Committee will select the best paper. Award winner(s) will be announced at the conference.
