Student Stories - What is your MBTI?

The personality test trend has gained significant attention. But what exactly is a personality test, and should you consider taking one? 🤔

Some of us may have already taken the personality test, from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to 16Personalities, but how accurately does it reflect our unique selves? Personality tests, such as the MBTI, aim to provide individuals with insights into their natural tendencies, preferences, and ways of processing information and making decisions. Understanding your personality type can lead to increased self-awareness about your strengths, weaknesses, communication styles, and interpersonal dynamics.

The MBTI test is designed to categorise individuals into one of 16 personality types based on their preferences in four areas: extraversion (E) or introversion (I), sensing (S) or intuition (N), thinking (T) or feeling (F), and judging (J) or perceiving (P).

Here we have a group of engineering students who have shared their MBTI test results and a glimpse into their school experiences. Keep scrolling to learn more about them!

How profound can a personality test be in enhancing self-awareness and guiding your educational journey forward?

After reading the stories of these students, you may find yourself intrigued by the insights provided by the MBTI and pondering which engineering programmes align with your interests, considering your strengths and weaknesses among other factors.

Additionally, if you have previously taken the test, your MBTI type may evolve with the different stages of your life. (So, let’s approach your MBTI results with a degree of flexibility!) These MBTI labels may still fail to fully capture the vast diversity of personalities among us, across the world, and even within colleges here in NTU. Many of us may not neatly fit into the prescribed function stacks of the 16 personality types and may behave differently from the test results suggest.
