About the Speaker

Khoa Nguyen is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing and Information Technology at University of Wollongong. He received his PhD in Cryptography in 2014 from Nanyang Technological University.

His research focuses on privacy-preserving and post-quantum cryptographic protocols, applied cryptography, and network security. He has published over 60 research papers in leading international conferences and journals, including EUROCRYPT, CRYPTO, ASIACRYPT, PKC, and the Journal of Cryptology. He has also held numerous leadership roles in the cryptography research community, serving as Program Chair, Area Chair, and Workshop Chair for several major international conferences

Description

As more of our daily interactions move online, protecting users' privacy while maintaining security and accountability has become increasingly important. This talk explores privacy-preserving authentication systems, which enable users to prove their identity without revealing unnecessary personal information.

The presentation examines the longstanding challenge of determining when, what, and how user information should be disclosed to authorities or service providers. Drawing on recent advances in cryptographic research, the talk discusses practical approaches to balancing privacy, security, and accountability in modern digital systems, highlighting solutions developed through research presented at EUROCRYPT 2021, CRYPTO 2022, and ASIACRYPT 2023..
