  • Our industrial and urban infrastructure in many countries around the world is aging and failures are becoming more prevalent. A key question that can be asked is: are we making the most out of recent advances in sensing and real-time data management?
  • Since its invention in early 1980’s, seismic cone (SCPTu) has become one of the most advanced tools for in-situ geotechnical investigations or for determining soil properties at small to large strain levels. SCPTu combines the advantages of piezocone (CPTu) with seismic wave measurements for direct determination of consolidation, shear strength and stiffness properties of soil. Compared with other in-situ tests, SCPTu is high in both accuracy and efficiency. It is most suitable for soil profiling or site characterization for reclaimed land or soft to very stiff soil. In this seminar, the principles and testing procedures of SCPTu tests will be explained. A few local case studies will be provided to illustrate the necessity and importance for such type of tests in Singapore and the typical results. Data interpretations and the other potential applications of SCPTu will be introduced. Participants to this seminar will have a much better understanding on how and when to use SCPTu for geotechnical projects.
