Participants at the Engineering Leadership and Resilient Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities symposium
An official delegation from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), led by ASCE President for 2026, Dr. Marsha D. Anderson Bomar, and CEO of ASCE, Mr. Peter J. O'Neil, visited Singapore from 7 to 9 June 2026. The delegation also included current and past ASCE Region 10 Directors, Region 10 Governors, and a Senior Global Project Manager.
As the global arm representing ASCE members outside of North America, Region 10 promotes the technical and professional development of its international members through country-level sections, technical exchange activities, and the study of local engineering practices. This international exchange was spearheaded by the ASCE Singapore Section, with the robust support of NTU School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and the ASCE Greater China Section.

Panel discussion at the Engineering Leadership and Resilient Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities symposium
A key highlight of the visit was the international symposium, "Engineering Leadership and Resilient Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities". Conceptualized and coordinated by Assistant Professor Fu Yuguang, President of the ASCE Singapore Section, the symposium brought together global engineering executives and leading scholars from prominent regional universities.
The symposium featured two sessions, one on Engineering Leadership and Visions and the other on Technical Advancements and Impact. The sessions explored forward-looking paradigms, ranging from the prospects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern engineering to macro-trends in sustainable urban infrastructure development. The School extends its sincere appreciation to Professor Lam Kwok Yan, NTU Associate Vice President (Strategy & Partnerships), for delivering the opening remarks.

ASCE delegation during a visit to the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)
In conjunction with the symposium, the ASCE delegation engaged in high-level strategic discussions with the leadership of CEE and the NTU College of Engineering (CoE). During the meeting, Professor Chu Jian, Chair of the School, presented an overview of CEE, highlighting its key strengths and innovative initiatives in sustainability, resilience, and civil engineering education and research.
The discussions focused on strengthening institutional partnerships, exploring emerging areas for collaborative research, and advancing global engineering education. The School would like to thank Professor Warren Chan, Dean of CoE, Professor Chu Jian, Professor Yang En-Hua, Associate Chair (Undergraduate), and Dr Teo Chee Chong, Associate Chair (Graduate), for participating in the meeting.
Beyond the academic forum, the visit fostered critical institutional alignments, coordinated by Gabriel Chen, Vice President of ASCE Singapore. The delegation held strategic meetings at the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) alongside representatives from the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and the Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council (ACECC) to explore future professional collaborations. The visit concluded with immersive technical field assessments across Singapore's landmark infrastructure, offering the delegation insights into the nation's world-class urban planning and resilient engineering practices.

Engagement sessions at the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES)
The visit concluded with a special screening of Cities of the Future, followed by site visits to modern structures in Singapore, highlighting the role of engineering in shaping sustainable and resilient communities. The School extends its appreciation to Associate Professor Zhao Mingshan (SIT), Assistant Professor Zhou Wen (NTU), and Associate Professor Kevin Kuang (NUS) for coordinating the activities.
By linking global engineering leadership with local academic excellence, this successful visit underscores the pivotal role of the ASCE Singapore Section in driving international scholarly collaboration and inspiring sustainable solutions for the cities of tomorrow.
The organizing committee extends its heartfelt gratitude to the ASCE global leaders, regional governors, and esteemed guest speakers, whose presence and insights made this international exchange a resounding success:
