22 Apr 2024 10.00 AM - 12.00 PM CEE Seminar Room A (N1-B1b-06) Current Students, Prospective Students

Host

Associate Prof Robert Tiong

Topic

AI Tectonics

About the Seminar

With the emergence of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotic fabrication, the subject, methods, and tools of architectural design need to be redefined. Human intelligence and machine intelligence are converging to form a new correlated entity, shaping the future of architecture in the post-humanist era. This lecture aims to explore the workflow from design to construction under the empowerment of architectural intelligence and robotic tectonics, breaking down barriers from geometry and performance to fabrication.

We will delve into the topic of "crafting robotics in architecture". Robotic fabrication utilizes precise robotic operation to transform the geometry, materials, tools, and construction information in design into digital logic recognizable by robots, enabling the optimal performance of design. The lecture will discuss how robotic fabrication reconnecting the division between architectural design and construction, thereby altering the future forms of architecture and the landscape of the architectural industry.
