The International Symposium on Audit Research (ISAR) was formed in 1995 from a merger of two previous audit research symposia: the USC Audit Judgment Symposium and the Maastricht Audit Research Symposium. It is now co-sponsored by four universities:

• Maastricht University (Netherlands)
• Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)
• University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA)
• UNSW Sydney (Australia)

ISAR aims to:
1. Promote high-quality and useful audit research
2. Include research that deals with both economic and judgment issues
3. Promote research that utilises any of a broad range of research methods
