ARISE Senior Research Fellow Dr Liu Yuezhong named inaugural member of NTUC’s Associate Researchers Circle

Congratulations to Senior Research Fellow Dr Liu Yuezhong, who has been named one of eight inaugural members of the National Trades Union Congress’ (NTUC) new Associate Researchers Circle @ Labour Alliance co-laB (ARC @ LAB).

The circle was launched at the 6th NTUC Labour Research Conference on 1 October 2026. It widens NTUC’s labour research network to include emerging researchers, who will offer fresh perspectives on how work is changing and on the issues that matter most to workers in Singapore. Each member is mentored by a member of the Labour Alliance co-laB (LAB), a network of more than 60 academics, researchers and practitioners, and will work with LAB on research papers and journal articles that add to Singapore’s body of labour research.

Drawn from institutions including NTU, the Singapore University of Technology and Design, Carnegie Mellon University and Michigan State University, the first cohort is studying topics that range from how artificial intelligence is affecting creative workers, to how older workers adjust to change at the workplace, to how adults pick up new skills.

Dr Liu Yuezhong’s research centres on the employability of an ageing workforce and on skills-based job mobility, using data science to make sense of the complex links between people, sectors and systems. Drawing on interdisciplinary expertise in geospatial data science and workforce development, he has led and contributed to projects that map skillsets and track workforce transitions across key sectors of Singapore’s economy, including retail, food services, precision engineering, air transport and healthcare. A common thread in his work is how mid-career and older workers can be better supported to stay employable, adaptable and resilient as labour-market conditions shift.

As part of ARC @ LAB, Dr Liu Yuezhong will bring this evidence to NTUC’s ongoing conversations on helping workers navigate changes in jobs, skills and workplaces – work that sits naturally alongside ARISE’s research on ageing, employment and lifelong learning.
