Data, Image & Video Analytics

Established in 2012, the Rapid-Rich Object Search (ROSE) Lab conducts research in the areas of computer vision, image processing, and pattern recognition. Much of our work involves the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning approaches, as well as domain generalisation and optimization approaches.

Advanced Sensing Technologies

The “Advanced Sensing Technologies” programme brings together faculty and researchers in the areas of signal processing, data analytics, machine learning, sense-making, distributed inference, and information processing together. The focus of this programme is to push the state-of-the-art boundaries in achieving fundamental insights and understanding of information science over networks. We develop theories, models and algorithms for inference, estimation and learning in multi-agent networks, including sensor networks, Internet of Things (IoT) and social networks.

Cyber & Network Security

Cyber & network security refers to properties of service availability and data integrity. With the continuous advancement of information and communications technology (ICT), in particular, the recent 5G-based IoT technologies, we are enjoying unprecedented connectivity around the world. Nevertheless, the threat of cyber attacks that may potentially cause significant damage to human lives and properties has more frequently become the center of attention, and has been attracting lots of research from different communities. In this program we study cyber & network security related problems, ranging from system modeling, analysis, synthesis and optimization, aiming to understand the types of security concerns that may exist in CPS, IoT and communication networks, and their impacts to the overall system properties, in particular, system resilience to adversary attacks, and develop relevant theories and toolsets that may enhance cyber & network security. This program blends the flavors of theoretical research and engineering implementations, aiming to provide feasible solutions to the industry in the end.

Positioning & RF Technologies

This programme is on various positioning and mapping technologies using Radio Frequency (RF), including related hardware (such as RF transmitters, receivers, antennas, and etc.) and software (advanced algorithms).

Communication & Network Systems

This programme brings together faculty and researchers specializing in different areas of communication and networking technologies, including physical layer, MAC and protocol layers, coding, communication signal processing, cyber & network security, 5G and 6G techniques. We are strong in theories, modeling, algorithms, analysis, and optimization of communication systems. We are also active in new research directions such as Deep Learning for Mobile Communication, Blockchain for Mobile Edge Computing, Intelligence Reflective Surface-enabled Communication System Design, etc.
