About Us

Research Areas

The focus of the Singapore Phenome Centre's (SPC) clinical studies is to gain a better understanding of diseases in terms of early detection of diseases, prevention of disease development, disease progression and impact of therapeutic interventions, leading to a higher quality of healthcare.

 

Services

In recent years, metabolomics have become increasingly important due to its potential to expand the understanding of how environmental factors and diseases influences human health. This can, in turn, lead to early disease diagnosis and prevention, or therapeutic strategies, resulting in improved healthcare and a higher standard of living. As such, the main research and service areas of the SPC are in the clinical, biological and environmental sciences. These research studies are centred on the profiling of critical biomolecules such as metabolites and lipids using the state-of-the-art Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy technologies available at SPC.

Singapore Phenome Centre offers a wide range of services (but not limited to the range stated) as seen in the drop down column:

  • Profiling of metabolites in biological and clinical samples (urine, serum, plasma, fecal, etc) and samples from environmental sources via UPLC-MS and NMR.​
  • Quantification of targeted analyte compounds or metabolites from samples in biological, clinical and environmental studies, including (but not limited to):
    • Quantification of over 100 lipoprotein sub-fractions from plasma
    • Quantification of about 150 metabolites in urine
    • Stable isotope flux analysis
    • Quantification of 10 classes of phospholipids (about 2750 phospholipids)
    • Quantification of amino acids
    • Quantification of TCA cycle intermediates
    • Quantification of a range of neurotransmitters
    • Quantification of tryptophan metabolism
    • Quantification of bile acid metabolism
    • Quantification of choline metabolism
    • Quantification of arachidonic acid metabolism
    • Quantification of purine metabolism
    • Quantification of free/total fatty acids
    • Quantification of vitamins
    • Quantification of ceramides
    • Customer-tailored targeted metabolite analysis 
  • Mass Spectrometary Imaging
