Centre Director's Message

The Smart Nation TRANS Lab, which comes under the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, spearheads the Smart Nation activities in our school. In line with the Singapore Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) 2025 roadmap, the centre now gears itself towards supporting Singapore vision to become a Smart Nation. In particularly, the centre focuses in translating cutting edge NTU-developed technologies into useful and deployable solutions for Smart Mobility, Smart Environment, and Smart Living.

Since 2016, the Smart Nation TRANS Lab, has carried out and completed some five translational projects, working with key government sectors, like GovTech, NEA, AVA, MSO, SCDF, HDB, URA, and LTA in the above areas on mobility, environment and living, and resulting in physical pilot trials island wide. We are also working towards licensing and commercializing these smart technologies for further large scale deployment locally and internationally.

The Smart Nation TRANS Lab, which is also funded by the Smart Nation Digital Government Office and the National Research Foundation (both under the Prime Minister Office), work on the advanced digital technologies in intelligent internet of things (IIOT), edge intelligence, artificial intelligence and cloud-edge architecture. We have established a strong industry-government relationship to build citizen-centric applications, and at the same time, published our work in international journals and conferences. At the same time, engineers in the Smart Nation TRANS Lab are constantly training undergraduates and postgraduates by allowing students to participate on smart nation projects and internships. This holistic integration of academic, industry, and government is what make our Smart Nation TRANS Lab unique!
