About Us
Singapore is one of the fastest-ageing countries in the world. According to the Ministry of Health, Singapore is projected to become a “super-aged” society in 2026, when at least 21% of the population will be aged 65 years and above. By 2030, one in four Singapore citizens is expected to be aged 65 years and above, underscoring the growing need for healthcare solutions that support healthy ageing, early intervention, and independent living.
This demographic transition places increasing pressure on Singapore's healthcare system, driving the demand for reliable tools and technologies that can detect early functional decline, support timely prognostication of serious health conditions, and predict clinically important outcomes. Consequently, technologies that enable automated, unobtrusive, and cost-effective monitoring are becoming increasingly essential to address these healthcare needs while minimizing resource burden on the healthcare system.
Established in 2016, R3 Institute Singapore (formerly the Rehabilitation Research Institute of Singapore, renamed on 1 September 2026) is a University Research Institute jointly supported by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and NHG Health.
As a multidisciplinary platform, R3 Institute Singapore combines academic research from NTU with clinical expertise from NHG Health to develop innovative solutions that address unmet healthcare needs and improve health outcomes.
