AY24 TIP Cohort Celebrates a Night of Reflection, Reconnection, and Renewal

On 24 May 2025, the AY2024 cohort from the Master of Science (MSc) and FlexiMasters (FM) in Technopreneurship and Innovation Programme (TIP) celebrated the completion of their academic journey with an End-of-Course Dinner and Certification Ceremony at Sofitel Singapore City Centre.

The event brought together nearly 200 attendees, including students, alumni, faculty, and guests, to celebrate learning, growth, and shared achievements of the NTUpreneur community.

The evening was emceed by MSc TIP students Zhang Zhi Dong and Hu Ying Ying, who guided the programme with confidence and clarity.

Framing the TIP Journey: Wisdom from the Stage

Professor Foo Maw Der, Acting Associate Vice President (Entrepreneurial Education), opened the night by reflecting on the achievements of our students and alumni while emphasising the spirit of the NTUpreneur community. “This event captures what NTUpreneur stands for: growth, connection, lifelong learning, and friendship as we celebrate the successes of our NTUpreneur community.”

Looking Back, Together

A photo montage, a visual journey through classroom moments, learning activities and community bonding, reminded everyone that the TIP shared experience wasn’t just about learning and forming networks with like-minded peers.

Honouring Growth: The FM TIP Certification Ceremony

The evening offered FM TIP students a moment to reflect on how far they’d come as we presented certificates to 28 graduates. This moment was particularly special for the FlexiMasters cohort, as many students had successfully balanced demanding careers, family responsibilities, and personal goals while fully participating in night classes, group work, and pitch critiques. Their journey exemplified persistence, determination, and a strong commitment to skill development for the future.

In Their Words: AY24/25 Cohort Reflections

No celebration of the TIP journey would be complete without hearing directly from the students who lived it.

Two student speakers, representing the diverse voices of the cohort, took the stage to share how the programme shaped not just their entrepreneurial thinking but also their perspective on growth, resilience, and what it means to lead in a fast-changing world.

Our MSc TIP rep, Kou Yu, offered a heartfelt reflection on his learning journey, how far the cohort had come, and how MSc TIP has prepared him to take on what’s next.

“We don’t need to build a starship to launch our dreams. Build a boat, set sail, and keep iterating. That’s the spirit we take with us.”

Tan Jiayu, representing the FlexiMasters cohort, spoke of balancing work and study, long nights, early mornings, and the unexpected lessons that came with both.

“FM TIP pushed me out of my comfort zone. Just like in sport, consistency and community make the difference.”

As a recipient of the Entrepreneurship Study Award and founder of Bikemart SG, Jiayu continues his journey into the MSc TIP track.

A Message from the NTU Alumni Office

Following the reflections, the NTU Alumni Office offered a message of continuity and connection. Mr Th’ng Beng Hooi, Director of the NTU Office of Alumni Engagement, reminded graduates that they were now part of a Global Alumni Network and shared how the NTU Alumni Office continues to support and engage NTU alumni to stay involved with NTU through student mentoring, alumni activities, and lifelong learning.

Musical and Performance Highlights:

Following the formal proceedings, the evening transitioned into a lively and heartfelt showcase of talent from the TIP community. The performances reflected individual creativity and the spirit of teamwork and self-expression that defined the cohort’s experience.

The segment opened with a high-impact drum performance by the NTU Chinese Drums Club. The rhythmic intensity and precision energised the room and set the stage for the following student acts.

Li Peiyi, Lia, a MSc TIP (EN) student, delivered a powerful rendition of Never Enough, blending vocal strength with emotional poise. Her performance received resounding applause and stood out as a signature moment of the evening.

Chen Qiyun, also from the MSc TIP (CN) cohort, and her dance partner Goh Kai Jie showcased a graceful ballroom routine that brought elegance and movement to the floor. Their dance, which included a waltz and quickstep medley, was technically polished and emotionally expressive.

Zhang Jingdong, Frank, our MSc TIP (EN) Student, performed a solo acoustic medley featuring English and Mandarin songs. His set created a relaxed, soulful interlude that connected with the audience.

The evening performances concluded on a high with the energetic rendition of an original NTUpreneur Song, written and led by MSc TIP (EN) student Chua Zhe Yi, Solomon, accompanied by peers. With lyrics crafted to reflect the shared TIP experience, the performance was more than entertainment; it was a unifying moment that captured the cohort's journey, values, and voice.

Each act highlighted the diverse talents within the NTUpreneur community and reminded attendees that innovation thrives not only in business plans but also in bold self-expression and shared experience.

Celebrating with Laughter: Lucky Draw & Group Memory

With the energy high, the spotlight turned to the much-anticipated lucky draw segment, which added light-hearted fun to the evening’s formal celebrations. The draw brought lively cheers as tech gadgets and other prizes delighted the crowd. More than the rewards, the shared joy made the moment special. For many, it wasn’t about the prizes but the shared excitement, spontaneous selfies, and the sense of community the draw helped foster.

After the draw, graduates and faculty gathered for group photos, capturing shared memories and joyful reunions. Our MSc TIP and FM TIP learners posed with instructors, classmates, and friends, capturing the spirit of the shared journey.

The official group photo, with the whole cohort and faculty lined up together, brought a sense of closure and collective pride.

To the AY24 cohort, the final clicks of the camera signified the conclusion of a chapter marked by growth and new connections. The knowledge gained and the personal growth experienced will endure, whether through the MSc TIP or the FM TIP. These connections are more than just friendships; they are part of a lifelong NTUpreneur community that supports, challenges, and inspires.
