MSc TIP 2025 Business Plan Competition: Student Start-ups Take the Stage

The Master of Science in Technopreneurship and Innovation Programme (MSc TIP) held its inaugural Business Plan Competition across two high-energy sessions: the Chinese class on 30 September 2025 and the English class on 8 October 2025. Serving as the capstone to the TP6601 (创业学概论) course and TP6001 (Introduction to Entrepreneurship), the event brought the students face-to-face with the scrutiny and pressures of business pitching.

This year, fourteen teams from the Chinese class and eight teams from the English class pitched their start-up ideas, turning months of research, validation, and iteration into compelling, investor-style presentations. For both cohorts, this marked their first-ever formal business plan presentation, setting the stage for what was to come in their entrepreneurial journeys.

Pitching Like Real-World Start-ups

An expert panel of MSc TIP instructors and NTUpreneur managers evaluated teams using a rigorous assessment framework that encompassed start-up fundamentals, including problem definition, solution clarity, business model, scalability, and financials, as well as delivery skills such as communication, Q&A handling, and teamwork.

Judges included Professor Chen Dongmin and Dr Lo Wai Shun for the Chinese class, as well as  Professor Inderjit Singh and Mr Anuj Jain for the English class, together with Mr Dennis Low and Mr Jerrick Tee from the NTUpreneur Experiential Learning team, who served across both events.

Celebrating Innovation and Team Spirit

In both competitions, the top three teams were awarded prizes based on the judges’ scores. The Chinese class also included a peer-voting segment, giving rise to the “最佳人气项目奖” (Most Popular Project Award). This allowed teams to be recognised not only for technical merit, but also for creativity, storytelling, and team chemistry. Winners also received NTUpreneur certificates in recognition of their achievement.

A Launchpad for Entrepreneurial Leadership

For many students, this was more than a class requirement; it was their first time pitching under pressure, defending a vision, and receiving unfiltered feedback from seasoned professionals. The experience prompted them to think more deeply, communicate more effectively, and lead with greater clarity.

Well done to all MSc TIP students for their creativity, effort, and passion throughout the competition.

Whether or not they walked away with a prize, every participant left with something more important: the confidence to turn bold ideas into action.

As the first business plan competition for both the Chinese and English cohorts, this milestone marks the beginning of many more pitches to come, for funding, for partnerships, and for real-world impact.

Beyond the competition, MSc TIP continues to nurture resilience, teamwork, and the courage to build something bold.
