Sustaining the Maritime Engine

As a sustainability advocate, President of Maritime Business Society, Sarah Long (first row, second from left) shares her rewarding journey as she sees how the shared visions of building a stronger voice of the youth within the maritime community take shape.

“I feel inspired by the community’s commitment in enhancing the vibrancy of the industry. The efforts to create new partnerships and sustain the ecosystem is a focal point. Working together with my peers and seniors with the same passion, we raise awareness and share a myriad of career opportunities with our current and prospective students.

I have been on internship as a commercial intern specialising in Heavy Lift shipping and it has enabled extensive immersion to the industry. It was interesting to see the theoretical aspects take shape and at the same time, gain practical experience. My internship provided a meaningful glimpse into my future working in this global and dynamic industry. NTU’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has provided opportunities to expand our horizons and nurture growth. I am looking forward to our cohort exchange to Rotterdam in 2023 as part of our curriculum.

To students interested in maritime studies, there is strong support from the school and the industry due to Singapore’s strategic role as a leading maritime nation. Continue to build your passion by taking up internships and mentorships. Go for competitions and seize all the opportunities!”
