The School is pleased to announce that Nanyang Assistant Professor Ye Chunchun and CEE PhD student Koo Pooi Ling have been recognised at the International Congress on Membranes and Membrane Processes (ICOM 2026), receiving the NAMS Young Membrane Scientist Award and Student Poster Award respectively.
ICOM is the largest gathering of the global membrane community. It is jointly organised by the North American Membrane Society (NAMS), the European Membrane Society (EMS), and the Aseanian Membrane Society (AMS).

Asst Prof Ye was one of three recipients selected for the NAMS Young Membrane Scientist Award, which recognises outstanding researchers who are within five years of completing their PhD and are making important early-career contributions to membrane science and technology.
Reflecting on the recognition, she said, “I am deeply honoured to receive this award. I am sincerely grateful to my former supervisors, mentors, collaborators and colleagues for their guidance and support, and to NTU, CEE and NEWRI for their trust as I begin this new chapter in Singapore.”
Her research focuses on designing advanced polymer membranes with precisely controlled, molecular-sized pores. These membranes can selectively separate ions and molecules. Potential applications include clean energy storage, resource recovery and more sustainable industrial processes.
As part of the award, Asst Prof Ye presented her research during a dedicated award session at ICOM 2026 in San Antonio, USA.

CEE PhD student Koo Pooi Ling received the Student Poster Award for her research on a membrane-separated electrochlorination system that produces low-bromide sodium hypochlorite from a synthetic treated brine feed.
The study investigates the effects of operating conditions on chlorine transport and hypochlorite production, providing insights into more efficient and sustainable disinfectant production for water treatment applications.
These awards highlight the contributions of CEE's faculty and students to advancing membrane science and technology.
