Enhancing Learning and Transfer of Digital Literacy in Adult Learners

Abstract

 

This project investigates the challenges of knowledge acquisition and transfer among adult learners aged 25 to 65 in the domain of digital literacy, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) literacy. As AI-enabled technologies become increasingly integrated into the workplace and daily life, there is a growing need to understand how adults of different generations learn new digital skills and apply them beyond the training context.

The project comprises three work packages. The first examines the self-regulated learning processes and factors that influence how adult learners acquire digital literacy. The second explores the instructional and pedagogical methods used by training providers in AI literacy courses, identifying strategies and conditions that may promote or hinder effective learning and transfer. The third evaluates the effectiveness of instructional designs in facilitating long-term training transfer of AI literacy.

Findings from this project aim to inform adult education researchers, training providers, and policymakers on effective learning processes and instructional strategies that enhance the acquisition and transfer of AI literacy, thereby improving the return on investment of training resources in Singapore's continuing education landscape.
