Abstract

My presentation will cover:

The presentation will deliver a brief introduction of alkali-activated materials (AAMs), also broadly know as geo-polymers. As a greener alternative to Portland cement, AAM processes properties such as fast setting, high early strength and durable under saline and alkaline conditions. There are technical issues challenging this relatively new materials. This presentation will deliver the recent technology progress addressing these issues for a bright future of this type of sustainable materials.

About the Speaker

Professor Zuhua Zhang is working on sustainable cement and concrete materials at Hunan University He graduated from Nanjing Tech University with Bachelor degree of Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials Engineering in 2006. He continued his research on materials science and received PhD from the University of Southern Queensland in 2013.

He was supported by the Young Talent program and working at Professor Caijun Shi’s group since 2017.

He has particular interests of low carbon cement technologies , including alkali activated materials (AAMs), industrial wastes recycling and functional building materials . He has gained experiences of projects on clay mineral process, oil well cement, lightweight concretes, fire resistance AAM , design of AAM concretes, durability testing of concretes .

He has published 80+ highly ranked journal papers, 6 book chapters and 20+ conference papers. He proposed the concept of efflorescence potential of AAMs and the quantification method , and was invited to presented this work at GRC 2018, Hongkong. In 2017 he was awarded “ Excellence of Young Researcher” at The Third International Conference on Chemically Activated Materials (Gold Coast).
