The School is pleased to share that the project, “Mitigating AI-Driven Information Disorder via a Fit-Based Framework”, has been awarded funding under the 2025 Social Science and Humanities Research Thematic Grant (SSHR-TG) Call.
The project is led by an interdisciplinary team bringing together expertise in behavioural science, information management, human–AI interaction, digital society, communication, and policy engagement:
- Associate Professor Yuen Kum Fai, Lead Principal Investigator (NTU School of Civil and Environmental Engineering)
- Professor Shirley Ho, Co-Principal Investigator (NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information)
This initiative addresses the growing risks associated with AI-driven information disorder, including misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation, by developing human-centred approaches to strengthen individuals' ability to navigate and evaluate AI-generated information.
The research objectives include:
- Advancing an understanding of how people interact with and evaluate AI-generated information
- Examining the factors that influence trust, judgement, and decision-making in AI-mediated information environments
- Developing and evaluating approaches to strengthen individuals' ability to navigate AI-generated content responsibly
- Generating insights to support the design of more effective human-centred AI systems and interventions
- Informing future policy discussions on AI governance, digital literacy, and information resilience
By integrating perspectives from behavioural science, communication, and human–AI interaction, the project seeks to inform practical interventions, AI governance frameworks, and public education initiatives that help individuals engage more effectively with AI-generated information.
The project also aims to contribute to broader discussions on responsible and human-centred AI governance. The findings may support the development of AI literacy programmes, digital resilience initiatives, and policy strategies that promote a more trustworthy information ecosystem.
About the Social Science & Humanities Research Thematic Grant (SSHR-TG)
It is the first major initiative launched in 2016 by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), aimed at boosting social science and humanities research in areas of strategic relevance to Singapore and Asia.
