    The Second Major in Material Physics and Technologies equips students with a strong foundation in physics and advanced materials, complemented by interdisciplinary training in electronics, photonics, nanotechnology, and sustainable energy systems. Students gain exposure to the physics of semiconductors, functional and quantum materials, advanced characterization techniques, and materials processing. This programme prepares graduates to contribute to innovation across high-impact sectors including semiconductors and microelectronics, energy storage and conversion, aerospace, healthcare technologies, and environmental sustainability. It is designed for students interested in advanced manufacturing and technology development that underpin Singapore’s technological competitiveness and long-term economic growth.

    Students gain exposure to the physics of semiconductors, functional and quantum materials, advanced characterization techniques, and materials processing.

    Admission Requirements

    • Must read either Final Year Project (PH4422) or Professional Internship (PH4420​) or both.
    • A minimum CGPA of 4.50 and a grade of A- or better in the Final Year Project are required to be eligible for Honours (Highest Distinction). A minimum CGPA of 4.00 and a 'Pass' grade in the Final Year Project are required to be eligible for Honours (Distinction). 
    • All common core and graduate level courses cannot be mapped to exchange courses. PH4XXX courses can only be mapped to exchange courses as BDE, unless the exchange course is a graduate-level course. Please refer to this page for more information.
