Prof Wang Qijie Elected as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow Class of 2026

NTU EEE Professor Wang Qijie Elected IEEE Fellow for Pioneering Contributions to Mid-Infrared and Terahertz Photonics

The school is proud to announce that Professor Wang Qijie has been elected to the prestigious IEEE Fellow grade for 2026. He was recognised “for contributions to the photonic engineering of mid-infrared and terahertz semiconductor lasers and detectors,” marking a significant milestone in his distinguished research career.

Widely regarded as one of the highest honours in the engineering profession, the IEEE Fellow distinction is reserved for individuals with extraordinary accomplishments in IEEE’s fields of interest. Fewer than 0.1 percent of IEEE’s voting membership are selected each year, underscoring the exceptional standing of this recognition within the global engineering community.

Professor Wang, a leading figure in semiconductor photonics, expressed gratitude upon receiving the news.
“I was truly humbled and delighted when I learned that I had been named an IEEE Fellow. This honour represents not only recognition of my work, but also the collective efforts of my team and collaborators over the years. It motivates me to continue pushing boundaries, contributing to impactful engineering innovations, and nurturing the next generation of engineers,” he said.

A faculty member of NTU EEE and a key contributor to the University’s photonics and quantum technology initiatives, Professor Wang has established internationally recognised research programmes in mid-infrared and terahertz light sources and detectors. His work has advanced high-performance semiconductor devices with applications spanning environmental sensing, medical diagnostics, security screening, and emerging quantum technologies.
