NTU-AMD to launch Data Science and AI Lab (S$4.8M), for DS&AI undergraduate programme and Work-Study Scheme

Under the leadership of Assoc Prof Nicholas Vun (PI) and Assoc Prof Francis Lee (Co-PI), SCSE signed a MoA with AMD on 14 Dec 2018 to launch a Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI) Lab, with the aim to nurture next-generation tech leaders
equipped with the latest industry-driven digital skills in the area of data science and artificial intelligence. The S$4.8 million joint DS&AI Lab will leverage AMD’s deep-learning technologies and NTU’s global strengths in machine
learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, to complement our Data Science and Artificial Intelligence undergraduate programme.
The collaboration will allow our students to be exposed to real world applications such as developing software algorithms used in security fields for feature identification, voice recognition and motion detection; using big data and analytics for merchandise suggestions and to develop clinical support solutions to aid medical diagnosis. Through this joint effort, SCSE’s students will get the opportunity for local and overseas attachment opportunities with AMD and will also be able to intern at AMD’s Shanghai Research and Development Center and the Singapore Product Development Center.
