The ACM International Conference on Management of Data (ACM SIGMOD) and International Conference on Very Large Data Bases (VLDB) are two premium data management venues. These conferences cover the research and development results on the principles, techniques and applications of database management systems and data management technology. The 2023 editions of ACM SIGMOD and VLDB were held in Seattle, USA (Jun 18-Jun 23) and Vancouver, Canada (Aug 28-Sept 1), respectively.
VLDB uses PVLDB, a scholarly journal for disseminating the papers accepted in VLDB in a monthly basis. Similarly, SIGMOD uses the Proceedings of ACM (PACM) journal to disseminate the accepted papers quarterly. The Associate Editors of a specific edition of these conferences are responsible along with the PC chairs to provide constructive guidance and management of the review process for selecting papers. The reviewers are responsible for providing high-quality, timely reviews of papers assigned to them and participate actively in discussions to facilitate decision making.
The PC chairs hand pick a set of Associate Editors and Reviewers. For SIGMOD 2023, 31 Associate Editors were selected globally by the PC chairs to guide and manage the review process that lasted around 1.4 years. Six of them were awarded the Distinguished Associate Editor Award. A/P Bhowmick is the only Associate Editor from Asia to receive the award. He was also selected as the “best of the best” among these distinguished Associate Editors and was awarded a free upgrade to a suite in the conference hotel.
A/P Bhowmick also received the Distinguished Reviewer award in VLDB 2023. The review board consists of more than 215 reviewers and around 15% of them received this award for their exemplary reviewing service. He is the only one from Singapore to receive
