A/Prof Sourav S Bhowmick receives Distinguished Associate Editor Award in VLDB 2022

International Conference on Very Large Data Bases or VLDB conference, organized by the VLDB Endowment, is one of the two premium data management conference (the other one being ACM SIGMOD). The conference covers the research and development results in the broader field of database management. The mission of VLDB Endowment is to "promote and exchange scholarly work in databases and related fields throughout the world. VLDB 2022 was held in Sydney, Australia from Sept 5^th to 9^th. 

Since 2008, VLDB uses PVLDB, a scholarly journal for disseminating the papers accepted in VLDB. PVLDB is distinguished by a monthly submission process with rapid reviews. PVLDB issues are published regularly throughout the year. The Associate Editors of a specific edition of VLDB are responsible along with the PC chairs to provide constructive guidance and management of the review process for selecting papers for PVLDB.  

The PC chairs hand pick a set of Associate Editors for an edition of VLDB/PVLDB. For VLDB 2022, 32 Associate Editors were selected globally by the PC chairs to guide and manage the review process that lasted around 1.4 years. Five of them were awarded the Distinguished Associated Editor Award. A/P Bhowmick is the only Associate Editor from Asia to receive the award. He also received Distinguished Associate Editor award in ACM SIGMOD 2021, only one from Asia to receive it as well.
