Introduction
This course provides learners with an understanding of the fundamental guiding principles and issues underlying the teaching and learning of music.
This course is part of:
- Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Music
- FlexiMasters in Teaching and Learning Music
Learners must complete the following courses to attain the Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Music (12 AU):
• MUE904 Studies in Musical Behaviours
Upon completion of the fourth course, MUE903 Popular Culture and ICT in Music Education, learners will fulfil the AU requirements to attain the FlexiMasters in Teaching and Learning Music (16 AU).
By the end of the course, learners should be able to:
i) Articulate the historical underpinnings of music education in
Singapore
ii) Relate current thinking about the teaching and learning of music
from a personal and international perspective to the local
context
iii) Identify current issues within music education with theoretical
and pedagogical understanding.
This course focuses on the historical, psychological and sociological foundations of teaching and learning music. The course also explores in-depth current curricular thinking and issues in music education.

music programme
iv) World musics in education
v) Creative and critical thinking in music education
vi) Interdisciplinary approaches to music teaching and learning
